Subcommittees

A. Finance/Grant Writing Committee

 

Overview:

The aim of the Finance/Grant writing committee is to ensure GUYDA is operating in a financially sustainable and transparent manner, as required by its 501c mandate.

 

Goals:

  • Ensuring GUYDA has a treasurer and co-treasurer.

  • Creating and maintaining internal controls.

  • Keeping a record of all financial transactions, for example, monies received, monies disbursed, budgeting, grant writing, receipts, etc.

  • Preparing financial reports and presenting the same to the membership.

  • Seeking and writing proposals for grants that are in alignment with GUYDA’s mission

 

Requirements:

Persons with a background, skills, experience in finance/budget, granting writing, who desire to contribute to the goals of the Finance/Grant Writing Committee.

 

B. Education/Bylaws Committee

 

Goals:

  • To facilitate educational opportunities for the youth in Guyana and Guyanese youth in the U.S.A.

  • To assess the need for educational opportunities for the youth in Guyana including scholarships.

  • To equip the youth of Guyana with the skills necessary to become productive citizens.

  • To review and prepare amendments to Bylaws of GUYDA as directed by the President.

Requirements:

  • Persons with an aptitude to evaluate proposals/applications.

  • Persons with a background/experience in education and/or persons who desire to contribute to the goals of the Education/Bylaws Committee

 

  

C. Fundraising/Building Fund Committee

 

Goals:

 

  • To develop an annual calendar for all upcoming events proposed by the Fundraising Committee or any other committee within GUYDA.

  • To brainstorm and plan social activities that would generate funds for GUYDA

  • Ensure that all tickets and flyers are designed and/or printed in a timely manner.

  • To advertise all functions and social activities through several social media platforms and other distribution methods.

  • To ensure that 10% of the net revenue generated from any fundraising social activity, is assigned to the Building Fund.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Must be willing to attend follow-up meetings that are set to monitor the plans for any upcoming social activity.

  • Must be willing to actively engage in undertaking responsibilities that would ensure the planned social events are executed.

  • Must be willing to attend and arrive early at any planned social event, in order to assist with the set-up for that event.

  • Must be willing to donate or contribute financially to the organization, whenever necessary.

  • Any other committee that would like to host an event, should consult with the Fund-Raising Committee Team prior to doing so, in order to gain joint collaboration.

 

Note: Responsibilities are not exclusive only to the Committee members.  Committees will collaborate as necessary, to fulfill the mission of GUYDA and to the success of events.

 

D. Social Media/Website/Marketing Committee

 

Goals:

  • Oversee the design, development, publishing, and maintenance of GUYDA’s webpage and social media platforms.

  • Recommend editorial policies, procedures, and guidelines for publishing and disseminating information on the GUYDA’s website.

  • Ensure that the website stays current with content and new technology/social media/trends.

  • Implement a system for regular data/information collection for updating and editing.

  • Collaborate with the Review and Editing committee to ensure the design and content, meet the needs of members, and satisfy the Mission of GUYDA.

  • Make recommendations on the infusion of technology such as videos, pictures, and social media platforms.

 

Requirements (Committee members only need to satisfy at least one of these requirements):

 

  • Knowledge of web design and development.

  • Experience on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter).

  • Knowledge of editing/updating capabilities, including the use of Microsoft word.

  • Be able to analyze data, video editing, and photography including cropping.

  • Willingness to learn and have a strong desire to contribute ideas.

 

E. Content Review/Editing Committee

 

Goals:

 

The Content/Review & Editing Committee is established for the following purposes in collaboration with the Social Media/Website/Marketing Committee:

  • To review and edit the content of all outbound correspondence, website, and social media messaging for accuracy, spelling, & grammar.

  • To ensure content is current and relevant.

  • To review and edit the graphic designs/displays and ensure the appropriate format of presentations.

Requirements:

Persons who desire to contribute to the goals of the Website/Review & Editing Committee.
