Great Neck, New York – November 4th, 2023 - The Guyana United Youth Development Association, Inc. (GUYDA) hosted its highly anticipated 19th Annual Anniversary Gala on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Leonard’s Palazzo in Great Neck, New York. The gala proved a resounding success, bringing together GUYDA members, supporters, and esteemed guests for an unforgettable celebration, recognition, and community empowerment.
The event commenced with a lively cocktail hour from 8:45 PM to 10:00 PM, featuring a captivating Steelpan Interlude by the talented Tyler Cohen. The night unfolded with a diverse program filled with meaningful moments.
- The Master of Ceremonies beautifully orchestrated the evening; Mr. Carl Osborne, the Public Relations Officer of GUYDA, introduced the guests to the gala's festivities. Mr. Osborne warmly welcomed all attendees and delivered inspiring opening remarks, setting the tone for the night.
- Dr. Sherry Hamilton delivered a touching invocation, setting the stage for the evening's spirit of unity and hope.
- The National Anthems of both the United States and Guyana were expertly performed by Mr. Anthony Alleyne, evoking a sense of pride and camaraderie among the diverse audience.
- Mr. Leslie Stewart, the President of GUYDA, shared his insights and vision in his President remarks, highlighting the organization's unwavering commitment to empowering youth in Guyana and the United States.
- Ms. Beryl James read the biography of GUYDA’s special honoree for 2023, Mr. Wavel Ramsey.
- Mr. Carl Osborne returned to present GUYDA’s Year in Review, offering a glimpse into the organization's impressive accomplishments over the past year.
- Mr. Leslie Stewart awarded the prestigious Presidents Special Awards to Ms. Jennifer Seymour-Wright and Mr. Victor Osborne, GUYDA's Vice President, acknowledging their significant contributions to GUYDA's mission.
- Ms. Valandia Sunshine DeFontus delivered a mesmerizing extraordinary rendition, Never Give Up, adding a musical touch to the atmosphere of the gala.
- A heartfelt Toast and Vote of Thanks were offered by Mr. Mark Hamilton, extending appreciation to all attendees, supporters, and contributors.
- The gala also featured an announcement of raffle prizes, including a 55-inch TV, a Spa Essentials Set, and the grand prize—a year of unlimited TV, movies, pay-per-view, NFL, football, rugby, and entertainment.
